2K Games has appointed Ben Brinkman from the creators of Apex Legends to oversee the development team at 31st Union, which is currently developing the anticipated over-the-shoulder action-packed title known as Project Ethos.

Brinkman steps into the leadership position at 31st Union following the exit of former leader the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was removed from his post due to the game's lackluster initial reveal last autumn.

On Wednesday, 2K president David Ismailer notified staff about this decision through an official communication, which highlighted that playtesting had revealed the necessity for a clearer game identity.

Ismailer expressed that the developers is now reimagining Project Ethos with a renewed focus, aiming to better meet community desires.

A Pattern of Strategic Recruitment

This announcement mirrors a similar step taken by 2K Games in the summer, when they brought on Rod Fergusson from Blizzard to assist with the beloved franchise development group.

Given your hard work and versatility, particularly over the last year, you consistently demonstrate that.

The gamer responses from last fall’s Project ETHOS playtest was enlightening. It confirmed the potential of a action-packed game but told us we still had work to do. It highlighted the requirement for a more distinct brand.

It’s been inspiring to see how far you’ve progressed. You accepted the feedback to mind and revamped the title with a refreshed goal - one that’s positioned to achieve its promise to our fans.

Our confidence in this project increases every day. To advance the incredible development you’ve made, It is a pleasure to announce the new hire as the new Studio Head of the team. Following some time of discussions, he comes aboard us on Monday, October 20.

His management and experience in the PVP shooter space is extensive, having spent the last 15 years producing and overseeing some of the most popular franchises in the industry, such as the acclaimed shooter, and most recently, Apex Legends.
